Don’t miss the Kids’ Conference 2018

Schools are invited to register to be part of this innovative student-led conference that aims to engage young people in forms of education that celebrate curiosity, imagination and creative problem-solving.

Hosted by Australian Catholic University and sponsored by DET, this year’s event will focus on new approaches to the use of digital technologies in the teaching of History, Geography, Science and English.

The event will be held on Tuesday 20 November at the Mercy Lecture Theatre, Australian Catholic University, 115 Victoria Parade, Fitzroy.

Students have the opportunity to register as presenters but must do so by Wednesday 31 October.

Digitech Conference 2018 – A Student Showcase

Primary and secondary schools are invited to send one or two teachers and between four and 10 students to this free, interactive ‘kids teaching kids’ event.

Developed by the Northen Peninsula Digital Technology Teachers’ Network, and hosted this year at Carrum Primary School, keynotes will be delivered by Dr Tim Kitchen, Senior Education Specialist at Adobe, and Roland Gesthuizen, STEM Method Lecturer at the Faculty of Education, Monash University. Presentations will also be delivered by two US schools engaged in innovative digital technology and makerspaces.

The event will be held on Friday 9 November. To register, provide your school name and attending student and teacher details no later than Tuesday 2 November.

Register now: 2018 Education in Games Summit

 

Learn how to explore, critique and make games with your students at the 2018 Education in Games Summit. Co-presented by the Victorian Department of Education (DET) and the Australian Centre for the Moving Image (ACMI), the event will showcase the latest implementation of videogames for education, highlighting best practice for teaching right across the curriculum, from storytelling to STEM.

Speakers will include Meenoo Rami, Manager, Minecraft Education, Microsoft and Brett Leavy, who will share highlights from his Virtual Songlines Ingidenous software toolkit.

The Education in Games Summit will be held on Friday 26 October and will also feature a showcase exhibition of student work from the 2018 Games and App Challenge.

ACMI is offering Casual Relief Teacher support for eligible schools to help enable greater attendance by teachers who would benefit from the summit. For more information, contact: kate.ficai@acmi.net.au

GSuite Professional Learning Workshops

G Suite ‘ Getting Started’ Workshops for Term 4, 2018

Previously known as Google Apps, these full-day G Suite workshops are designed to support DET school leaders and teachers just starting out, as well as those who have been driving their own learning with G Suite. Participants are introduced to the key apps in the suite, presenting a school focused approach in their use for administration, learning and teaching. The workshop will provide some tips and tricks, while discussing a holistic set up for different learning environments and settings, providing examples using both the SAMR and 4 C’s models. Register for one of the workshops below to make the most of Google Drive, Docs, Slides, Forms, Sheets, Sites, MyMaps, Drawings and, of course, Google Classroom.

Kids Conference 2018

A fantastic opportunity exists for students to present at the Kids Conference 2018.

The conference involves short speaker sessions where primary and secondary students can present innovative projects relating to History, Geography, Science, English and digital technologies.  It allows students to present on how they have developed their learning by exploring new and emerging technologies and presentation tools.

The Kids Conference promotes students as creators of knowledge and innovation to an audience of lead educators, policy makers and the teaching community. It promotes the role of teachers as facilitators of creative, collaborative and student led projects.

Registrations for student presenters close on 31 October.
